Malaysia States & Federal Territories ( Negeri Sembilan)

3.Negeri Sembilan

Negeri Sembilan is one of Malaysia's thirteen states and lies on the western coast of Peninsular Malaysia, just south of Kuala Lumpur. Negeri Sembilan's modern history then began with British intervention in the districts of Sungai Ujong, Rembau and Jelebu. In Sungai Ujong, the British took the opportunity to intervene in the region's politics by taking part in and then ending, the conflict between Dato' Kelana and Dato' Bandar, which was affecting the tin trade along the Linggi River. The British's support of Dato' Kelana was rewarded by the appointment of W.A. Pickering as British Resident in 1874.

Negeri Sembilan has over 1 million people living within the district and the state's ethnic composition consists of approximately 57.8% Malay,  21.9% Chinese,14.3% Indian and other ethnic groups at 0.35%.

The name, which literally translates as the Nine States, is believed to have come from the nine villages settled here in the 14th century by the Minangkabau people, originally from West Sumatra in Indonesia, fleeing violent raids from the Javanese.

                                     Attractions in Negeri Sembilan

  • Port Dickson

Port Dickson, or PD for short, is best known for its beaches is one of the closest beach resorts to Kuala Lumpur. However these days there is more to do in PD than just lazing on the beach and there are plenty of fun places to take the family whatever the weather.

There are many choices for the best beach in Port Dickson. The 18-kilometre long coastline is full of them! Some of the resorts have access to a private beach Port Dickson, but there are also many public Port Dickson beaches so you are spoilt for choice.

There are more than a dozen beaches in the PD area spread over an 18km stretch of coastline. Some are better than others in terms of water cleanliness and quality of sand.

1.  Alive 3D Art Gallery

Alive 3D Art Gallery is one of those interactive trompe l’oeil art galleries that have become very popular in Malaysia in recent years. This one at Port Dickson has a similar concept and is bigger, according to Alive 3D’s Manager, Mr Dino Yeong.

The gallery is owned by the Segar group, a property developer. The opening of this art gallery and the neighbouring Wild West Cowboy was no doubt an attempt to breathe life into one of their developments, Bandar Dataran Segar in Lukut, on the edge of Port Dickson.

2. Army Museum (Port Dickson)

The Army Museum, known locally as Muzium Tentera Darat, is located next to a military base off the main road at 5th mile, about 7km away from Port Dickson town in Sirusa district. A property of the Malaysian Royal Armed Forces, the museum traces its exploits and achievements through history, trumped up with dramatised aspects and romantic story-telling.

In addition to the museum buildings, the spacious grounds also house decommissioned military vehicles, including planes, tanks and artillery guns, and a memorial fountain dedicated to soldiers who served through Malaysia's war history.

3. Tanjung Tuan Recreational Forest

Tanjung Tuan Forest Reserve is technically protected and maintained by the state of Melaka but is located in Port Dickson. The coastal forest is about 30 hectares and perched at the top is the Tanjung Tuan or Cape Rochado Lighthouse – a site of historic significance. The original lighthouse was built by the Portuguese during their occupation of Melaka in the 16th Century. It was destroyed in a battle and rebuilt by the British in the 18th century and is still in use.

Shaded by generous jungle trees, the first part of the climb is via a slightly hilly road that cuts through the jungle. The walk up takes about 30 minutes – inclusive of time to tie shoelaces, crunch dry leaves, hear sounds of different birds.
